« Impossibly Grinworthy »

I find it impossibly grinworthy, this video of the Fancy Toys. The guy in the black hat, James Duncan (Anderson) is the son of Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Seems he's taken on some of the knack for clever performance on stage. Even though he seems to be the silent partner, watch as he sings some great high harmonies, plays the glockenspiel, tambourine, and then the almost too good to be true shared drum solo. As half of the core creative element, he plays much more in the studio, including drums. He has also worked with dad on Tull stuff, and in Ian's solo work.

Actually, it is a joy to hear music that actually isn't all dark and murky and jaded. A little joy in music? It seems like it has been two decades since a song like this with its carefree abandon. (It sort of reminds me of that song by Dexy's Midnight Runners, Come On Eileen, in its acoustic instrumentation and quirky folk upbeat sound—itself oddly placed among the new wave and dance stuff of the era.) The girl drummer with a bold smile on her face certainly doesn't hurt here either!
