« Today's Sermon »

Here is a fragment of the sermon delivered today by Scott Landis at Mission Hills UCC. Kinda sums up a lot for your faithful scribe.

The famous psychologist Carl Jung based his whole understanding of human nature on this desire for wholeness that, he said, could only be achieved when we learn to integrate the two extremes. He said, by embracing the shadow (the darker side of life, that which we typically want to avoid) we diffuse it of its power and allow it to inform the totality of our existence. When we realize the shadow ought not be feared or avoided, rather it is that from which we can learn and grow, we move toward becoming fully integrated and at peace with ourselves and with God.
